Having moved back to Oxford from London, Harriet joined Shaw Gibbs in February 2023, working in the personal tax team.

Harriet has been working in tax for over nine years. She has acted for a range of individuals and their families, including non-domiciled and clients with an international history of moving to and from the UK. Before making any tax planning recommendations, she always get to know her client’s objectives and presents simple, pragmatic solutions.

Outside of work, you’ll often find Harriet walking around the grounds of Blenheim Palace with her dog. Being a fair weather (novice) golfer you may also spot her at a driving range.

The Basis Period Reform is quickly approaching

As part of HMRC’s Making Tax Digital ‘MTD’ project, from the 2024/25 tax year, self-employed individuals and partnerships will have to use the tax year (6 April to 5 April) as their basis period. Even though MTD is being delayed, HMRC are pushing ahead with the basis period reform to provide taxpayers two more years to adjust to the tax year basis before getting to grips with the MTD income tax self-assessment.
